About Jack London

Jack London Square is named for famed author Jack London, who wrote more than 50 novels, including White Fang and Call of the Wild. As a young boy, Jack London sold newspapers to sailors along the Oakland waterfront and later befriended Johnny Heinold, the owner of the Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon.

Many of Jack's experiences growing up along the oyster beds of Oakland's estuary shoreline are recounted in his various works.
