Upcoming and Incoming: Legacy Home Tour
When: Sunday, September 27, 11AM- 5PM

Where: starts at Franklin Park (1432 San Antonio, Alameda).

What: Alameda showcases some of the most beautiful Victorian houses in the Bay Area. Come see them yourself this weekend on this self-guided tour, hosted by the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society and the Alameda Museum. Participants of the tour will pick up a guidebook at the beginning of the event and make their ways throughout the island, learning as they go. Alameda is easily walkable-- there are few hills and traffic goes at a slow pace during the weekends. In addition, there are beaches and parks for participants to picnic on along the way!
Catch the last bits of the California summer weather while you explore the island's architectural history. The construction of certain buildings can date back to the 1870s, when the Victorian and Craftsman styles were popular. These styles are characterized by steep roofs, asymmetrical facades, and exposed rafters. The designs of these houses reflect the values of the era of families living in them.
The tour is partially organized by the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society, a local group that advocates for the protection of such historic houses. For the past 35 years. they have run seminars and lectures to educate the public and celebrated restoration efforts.
Past tours have focused on different regions of the island-- this year, the focus will be on Golden Coast.
Tickets are available from $30-35. You can purchase them here: http://www.alameda-home-tour.org/index.html
