What: Enough with the refreshing roses and cocktails--it’s time to bring out our favorite fall drinks! 

     The Fall Festival at the Encinal Yacht Club will be a fun, family-friendly space for us to celebrate the changing seasons. It will feature drinks from famous Bay Area breweries and wineries, such as Anchor Brewing Company from San Francisco and Urban Legend Cellars from Alameda. 

     In addition to drinks, participate in a raffle for prizes like bikes, dinners and more and test our your hand at corn-hole. Corn-hole is a game where players toss resin-filled bags into holes cut into a raised platform. While not scientifically proven, many can vouch that your aim improves after a few drinks, so be sure to pair this activity with a cold one!

     All of this is organized to support Alameda Meals on Wheels. This organization proudly serves the vulnerable in our community. Everyday, holidays included, volunteers deliver a midday meal to those who cannot prepare one for themselves. Since recipients are charged on a sliding basis, Alameda Meals on Wheels relies primarily on donations from local donors and on events like these for funding. You can learn more about them here. 

     The festival will take place at the Encinal Yacht Club, which features gorgeous views of Oakland. The third-oldest yacht club in the Bay historically made a name for itself with famous parties, often held under the moonlight. Built in 1890, the club has endured economic crises while still holding onto its traditions. You can find out more about its history here.

     If you can’t make it, you can still visit the Club for other events. Upcoming celebrations include the Country Music End of Summer Bash and the Commodore's Cup. The Club has a history of hosting family-friendly parties, and chances are that these upcoming events will be as well. Here  is a full calendar.

What: Can’t make it to the July 4th parade? There’s still so much to experience in Alameda, and we would definitely recommend checking out Rhythmix Cultural Works. 

     Zany and unmistakable, the center of cultural exchange embodies the Alamedan phenomenon of converting previously abandoned spaces into areas where islanders can gather and enjoy themselves. 

     Other examples of this phenomenon include the Rockwall Winery and Faction Brewing Company, but Rhythmix is unique in its nonprofit status and mission. By the time the organization opened its doors in 2007, it had already enjoyed 8 years recognition for its contribution in musical and cultural programs. 

     Since then, it has not only continued carrying out its mission, but also furthered it. Today, it is a space for local artists, dance shows (that often involve audience participation), and eclectic performances that you are unlikely to forget. 

     “The Amazing Bubble Show” is one such event. Starring the Amazing Bubble Man, aka Louis Pearl, it “blends comedy and artistry with audience participation to amuse and amaze audiences of all ages.” 

     At first glance, a bubble show may not seem like something most would want to attend. However, the Amazing Bubble Man is one of a kind and has performed around the world for over 30 years. He can make rainbow and cloudy bubbles, all while forming elusive shapes that disappear into the next form that he creates.

     Maybe magic bubbles really aren’t your thing, and that is completely okay! There is still so much to see and experience at Rhythmix Cultural Works. Just this month, there will be a history lesson from journalist Eric Kos, feminist art exhibits, a comedy show with Will Durst, and so much more. What: By now, you can tell that the island city is abuzz as it gets ready for another round of one of Alameda’s grandest traditions: the Mayoral Fourth of July Parade.

     This parade is like no other. Ranked as one of the largest in the country, it features hundreds of floats and draws a crowd that is tens of thousands big. Best of all, you can view the whole thing from from your own backyard if you live along the path.

     Organizations and businesses capture the spirits of their missions in their floats, demonstrating facets of Alameda culture. For example, Rhythmix Cultural Works, a local art nonprofit, often steals the show and takes home prizes with their innovative floats of repurposed cars and giant wooden gears.

     Want to participate? It is free to do so, so long as you submit an application by Monday, June 10th at noon. You can use this form.  

     Floats compete for trophies and prizes, awarded to them by the mayor herself. If you are looking for inspiration and motivation, check out last year’s winners here. 

     In addition to the parade, there are a ton of other events happening in Alameda that day. In the morning, if you are feeling especially patriotic, feel free to join the R.A.C.E. run and walk that takes place on the parade route. This race supports the Midway Shelter, an organization that changes the lives of women and children who are homeless and have experienced domestic abuse.      Celebrate Alameda’s importance to the national government with the Coast Guard Festival! Did you know that Alameda is lucky enough to be one of the twelve Coast Guard Cities in the nation? This designation means that the island city is recognized by the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard. More information here.

What: Remember how you promised to get in shape in January? It’s not too late! Get to know other runners, enjoy beautiful Alameda, and support wellness initiatives with the Alameda Running Festival.

     Sometimes, we all need a little bit of extra motivation, and the Alameda Running Festival is the perfect event for us to become our best selves. Set in the fall, there is still plenty of time to get ready. There will also be a ton of options for all levels of fitness, from family runs to full marathons, each race similar in that you will get to enjoy gorgeous views from the largest island in the Bay Area.

     You can buy tickets to all races here. Since prices go up every few weeks, it is best to buy tickets early, and if you refer two friends, the festival will refund you $5. Included with a ticket purchase are a T-shirt, beer from Faction Brewing and Drakes, a custom bib, and more!

     While all running will take place on Sunday, the festival is a two-day-long event. On Saturday, September 14th, participants are encouraged to attend the Wellness Expo, which will highlight wellness initiatives in the city. Get to know local schools, businesses, and charities while participating in fundraising efforts. This event will take place at the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park and is also where you can pick up your welcome packet.

     Proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels and the Alameda Education Foundation, organizations that both improve the welfare of all ages on the island. Sponsors for the event include the Bank of Marin, Alameda Health System, Penumbra Inc., and others. If you can’t make it, but would like to support the causes, donations are accepted.

     Reconnect with the part of you that enjoys cool, fruity drinks in a chill environment among hip people. In 20 Weeks of Tiki Drinks, you are invited to explore the island oasis that is the Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge.

     Each Tuesday features a different imbibement, often a medley of classic drinks like Mai Tais and Trader Vics with modern twists. The event combines innovation with competition, as participants of the 20-day challenge are encouraged to keep track of their progress through tiki samplings with punch cards. Those who complete their journeys will be able to win a one-of-a-kind tiki mug created by Woody Miller, a local artist.

   Additionally, thanks to producers Otto and Baby-Doe von Stromheim, Tiki Oasis 2019 packages will be offered. A Premium Cocktail Pass will even be attainable. The Bay Area’s hidden gem has been recently featured in the LA Times. Not so hidden anymore, Californians and tourists alike are flocking to see all that the island city of Alameda has to offer.

Each end of the island, from Park Street to the Naval Base, boasts of its own history and traditions. A beach dotted with palm trees connects the areas and features breathtaking views of San Francisco’s cityscape.

Islanders would love to tell you of the city’s numerous traditions, including sand-castle contests, car shows, and Fourth-of-July parades. Each season carries its own celebrations, and mild weather lets guests enjoy festivals and fairs all year round.

Alamedans also create their own traditions. Recently, a mysterious person has been creating tiny fairy doors, nailed and glued to trees and telephone poles around the city. Though the Bay Farm Island dad’s identity has not been revealed yet, islanders have joined in on the craze and are making their own. See how many you can find!

The Naval Base has held onto its history and features a museum on the famous USS Hornet. That same space is experiencing a renaissance of breweries and wineries. Always kid friendly, it is is a safe place to relax by the soft and smooth waters of the San Francisco Bay with your entire family.

What other city can boast of the same beaches, history, and magic all in walking distance from each other? Alameda unites the old and the new, the fresh with the delightfully quaint. Cleaner and quieter than San Francisco, you can find your way around by foot and by bike. Tour the island and count the many Victorian homes along the way!

If you find yourself on Webster Street on Saturday, February 16th, what was once an innocent space for Farmers’ Markets will be transformed into a dazzling stage where lions can come out to perform.

In order to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year and the Year of the Pig, local organizations and businesses have worked together to bring the Lunar New Year Celebration on Webster 2019 to Alameda’s doorsteps. Dancers from the Toi Shan Family Association will honor Asian culture in the Bay Area by performing other traditional Chinese dances, with a Tai Zhi performance and dances by children following.

Almost as exciting, this event is free, so use extra funds to usher in good luck and patronize local businesses like the East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, a beloved, family-owned eatery that has been on the island for over 30 years. They will be serving appetizers, so you can look forward to a comprehensive introduction to dim sum from a menu of over 40 fresh dumplings. Check out their mouth-watering menu here.

Pig out in celebration of the Year of the Pig! This is a sign that is known to represent gentle and optimistic men and women, and those blessed by it are born in the years 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, and 2019. Signs reset every year, cycling through twelve animals that are said to bring out different characteristics. You can find your sign here. 

Don’t worry--this party is for everyone, as the West Alameda Business Association (WABA) will be distributing lucky envelopes to all participants, big and small. Keep an eye out for other giveaways from WABA, an organization that is breathing life into the renaissance happening on the West End of Alameda. Frank Bette Center for the arts, a city native, proudly presents its newest exhibit, Alameda Through a Lens, where artists will zoom in on details of the island city.

When was the last time you celebrated our architectural heritage? Taken a walk on the beach and focused on grains of sand? This is your opportunity to do all of that and more.

Though the Frank Bette Center is the host for this event, note that it will take place at the City Hall. It will be available until October 10th.

What: Gus Bostrom of California Historical Design in Alameda will bring a piece of history to the island. Learn about the work of Dirk van Erp, a Dutch-American coppersmith who is best known for his lamps, vases, and bowls. This event is a great way to get in touch with the city’s heritage and to learn more about the Alameda Museum.

     Van Erp’s exceptional metalwork is often considered to be unrivaled in America. Born in 1862 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, van Erp emigrated to the United States in 1890. He moved to San Francisco, where he attempted, but failed, to make it rich in the California Gold Rush. After marrying Mary Richardson Marino, he opened the Art Copper Shop in Oakland. His work was influenced by his friends and partner, Elizabeth Eleanor D'Arcy Gaw. He won many awards for designs and work. After his death in 1933, his son took over his shop until 1977, when he too died.

     Van Erp is just one of the many names that helped turn the Bay Area into the vibrant community it is today. Established in 1951, the Alameda Museum aims to preserve such culture and history. Ever since it was designated as the official repository of historical documents by the City of Alameda, the Museum has been the island’s go-to for those who wish to glimpse at the city’s spectacular story.      The Museum is located on 2324 Alameda Ave., Alameda, CA 94501. This event is one of many lecture series offered, but, this year, lectures are offered at the Alameda Elk’s Lodge. What: Have a hobby that you’ve been dying to try? Want to find out about new trends in the do-it-yourself sphere? Get inspired! The Alameda Mini Makers Faire is here to connect you with local art and the future.

     Be a part of Alameda’s first inspiration-themed fair. This event is family-focused and whimsical, combining homemade art and interactive exhibits in an outdoor party.

     Vendors will include Alameda classics such as The Sewing Room, a business that empowers youth to be conscious consumers and crafters. Sample homemade preserves from Alameda Fruit Co., and applaud the accomplishments of the Otis and Edison Elementary School STEAM club.

     In addition to being able to experience classic Alameda cultural highlights in one space, the fair will also provide the opportunity to interact with one-of-a-kind creators. Be sure to check out Gloveopus, an exhibit that allows guests to make their own octopus from old gloves. Maker Peter Gardner encourages you to enthuse your Glovetopus with any personality, be it fun or terrible.

     Have a niche interest? This event has got you covered. The Unnecessarily High Five will provide you with the high five of your life. Built from wood and mannequin parts, the exhibit is sure to exhaust you.

     Fortunately, you can re energize yourself with wild-fermented root kimchi with sea salt and seaweed brine. Damion Mason will teach you how to make this superfood at home.

What: Art walks never end in the Bay Area, and the West End Night Market is an extension of that vibrant atmosphere. Come and experience music, craft vendors, live music, and more!

     Numerous activities are planned to keep guests of all ages entertained. Bands and musicians such as Lorenzo Wood, Matt Jaffe, and Zack Bateman are set to perform. Guests can pregame to their performances by sipping on fresh beers from breweries. Take a break by dropping the kids off at the kid’s zone: There’s so much to explort!

     The West End Night Market prolongs the popular 2nd Friday Art Walk, also sponsored by the West End Arts and Entertainment District. Extremely popular, art walks have thrived across the Bay Area. The most famous art walk, First Friday, occurs in Oakland on the first Friday of every month. Everyone should check this event out if they have a chance. For more information, click here.  

     The 2nd Friday Art walk will also take place on the 13th. Less structured than First Fridays, this exciting event features artists from Oakland and Alameda who have opened themselves up to the public ad hoc.      The West End Arts and Entertainment District has worked tirelessly to organize this event and to bring the community together through art. Their website describes the organization as an alliance of creators, venues, and people who promote more visual and performing art in Alameda. They organize a multitude of events throughout the year in order to achieve their goal. These events highlight the community values of Alameda and encourage local artists. What: History has been made! Nadia Reddy, local author, has written the first-ever picture book about tikis. Her creation generates color and vibrance in an easily digestible format. Join her in celebrating her accomplishment, get familiar with local creative expression, and learn about the surprisingly vibrant tiki culture of the Bay Area.

     A proud supporter of the tiki lifestyle, Reddy and her family hail from the Fiji Islands. She grew to love her culture after visiting the islands when she was one year old. Her passion is evidenced by a large collection of novelty items related to her interest. Unfortunately, when she became pregnant, she dreamed about sharing her passion with her family but could not find any children’s books about tikis. The artist, who began drawing when she was 13, knew what to do. Tiki ABC is her second book after Mr. Green, the Pirate Iguana. You can check out her website to see both books and stay updated with Reddy’s work.  

     Fortunately for enthusiasts like Reddy, the Bay Area provides many opportunities to connect with tiki culture. Surprisingly, the San Francisco Bay Area is a hotspot for such activity. For example, not too far away from the Golden Gate Bridge, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room recently celebrated 50 years of charming visitors. Tourists come from around the world to listen to and watch the pseudo-Polynesian-themed animatronic-show. Also in San Francisco, the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar at the SF Fairmont Hotel allows guests to relax in a tropical atmosphere. The bar plays fake thunder and features a stage for live performances with bands able to play music while floating on a pool.      Alameda also takes part in pro-tikism. Nadia Reddy reveals that her introduction to Bay Area tiki culture began right here in Alameda at the Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge. The Tiki Lounge has been a component of Alameda culture for more than a decade. Often described as a retro-oasis of the island, the bar offers delicious drinks with live performances and exhibits.             Mingle with Trish Herrera Spencer, mayor and mother of four. She won’t let anything get in her way of creating a smarter and greener Alameda! Hang out with Councilmember Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, who will win you over with her smile and determination in keeping Alameda’s hospital open and libraries robust. With so many candidates waiting to get to know you, who can still claim that America’s romance with local government is dead?

Once you exhaust your extrovert batteries, you can sit back, nurse your drink, and participate in silent raffles. This year’s grand prize is (drum rolls, please) a Deluxe Walt Disney World Resort African Safari Adventure! Valued at $4500, the winner will be able to “escape on their own African safari adventure at this fantastic resort hotel with a dazzling pool oasis and waterslide.”

            Meeting your esteemed representatives shouldn't be anything but a comfortable and relaxed experience. Where: 200 Mosley St., Alameda

What: Celebrate Alameda’s first new park in over a decade! Located at the end of Mosley Street, Estuary Park will be celebrated in an upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event will feature a game played by members of the Alameda Little League Challenger Division, a team that supports children with physical and developmental disabilities, with the Alameda Recreation
and Park Department providing free hot dogs and popcorn.

     Estuary Park was created in order to provide a park space that encourages athletic activity among people of all ages and abilities. It will feature a multi-purpose synthetic field suitable for lacrosse, soccer, rugby, and football along with a synthetic turf field suitable for baseball and soccer. Accessibility was prioritized when planning the park’s 8 acres, reflected in the game to be played at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

     Before the park was constructed, it sat on a plot of land originally dedicated for the U.S. Naval Base. Before then, it was used by the Navy as an athletic site. Now, it will act as a space for the community to gather. In addition to sports fields, the park will provide playgrounds, picnic areas, and a dog park.

     The city contracted Verde Design to design the layout of the park. The award-winning firm is renowned for its urban look, having planned many college campuses and sports arenas, including those at San Francisco State University. The team, guided by core beliefs in “environmental stewardship, social responsibility, outstanding client service” reflect the values of Alameda taxpayers. What:    Make this upcoming year a productive one!        Many who hear about “Professional Organizers” may scoff at the notion of organizing as a profession. They may not believe one is not needed unless a person belongs on Hoarders. However, Professional Organizers can help everyone, even those not on reality TV shows. For example, anxiety, instead of laziness, prevents many people from knowing when to keep, trash, or donate items. Such people may feel the same nervousness others feel for tests and public speaking when approaching a dirty room. Additionally, cleanliness, like good diet, is a lifestyle handed down from parent to child, and if someone is not fortunate enough to have grown up in a family that demonstrated such good habits, they are normally left to deal with the mental and financial consequences of disorganized living on their own. What: Calling all writers! November is the time to let your inner novelist shine. In a challenge called Nanowrimo, participants commit to writing 50,000 words in the space of a month. The challenge can be taken part of in private or in public, with many events across the world organized in order to inspire the next generation of writers.

     Writers created Nanowrimo in 1999 because they believed stories matter. In 2005, the organization became a 501(c)3 nonprofit so that it could continue its mission of empowering future novelists. Boasting of hundreds of thousands of participants, the event has resulted in the publication of many works, such as Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, and Hugh Howey’s Wool.        50,000 words is a great challenge. In order to motivate Alamedans to achieve that goal, the Alameda Main Library will be hosting spaces for those who wish to participate. Sponsored by the Alameda Free Library Writer’s group, a write-in will be held in the library on Saturday, November 25th from 10AM to 1PM. Those interested need only show up with a laptop or pen

What: Considered to be one of the most destructive natural disasters in California history, the Northern California wildfire has destroyed at least 42 lives and 5700 homes. Countless lives have been ruined and family homes have been burnt to the ground. Entire cities, like Calistoga, have been evacuated. The impact has spread across the Bay Area, with tens of thousands of Northern Californians displaced and toxic smoke darkening our skies for the past few weeks.

       A series of unfortunate events preceded the Tubbs, Atlas, and the Redwood/Potter fires. Strong winds and neglected vegetation around powerlines culminated in what many refer to as a “firestorm.” A prime culprit in the fires is the huge energy company, PG&E, infamous for endangering lives through negligence surrounding waste disposal, power line maintenance, and more.        Though it is unlikely the company will accept full responsibility for yet another preventable catastrophe, the community has risen to the occasion. Firefighters and volunteers from across the globe have been working around the clock to put down fires, assist with evacuations, and help those in need.

       In the meantime, Alameda residents are encouraged to spare their lungs as fumes contain toxic chemicals. Though the air seems clearer now than it seemed a few days ago, air-pollution rates have still never been so high. Seniors and sensitive groups are encouraged to stay at home; everyone else should minimize time spent outdoors and shut their windows. Everyone is called to “spare the air.” This means driving less; burning no wood; and not barbecuing food.

       Finally, the efforts of firefighters and volunteers seem to be paying off. While the flames begin to die down, we are all called to join forces as a community and remember those who we lost and fight for those who have lost everything.

What: The West End Arts and Entertainment District is proud to announce its upcoming event, the 3rd Annual Blues, Brews and BBQ Festival. Celebrate the vibrant West End culture and be part of the beer-loving movement supporting creativity in schools. Who would have guessed that fostering art education in Alameda could be just a cold sip away?

Listen to blues, immerse yourself in local art, and enjoy the presence of the community and their frosty beers, all from the relaxing vantage point of your own lawn chair. Bands including Little Charlie & Organ Grinder Swing, HowellDevine, Aki Kumar Blues Band, and Lavay Smith Bluestet will entertain a crowd moving from beer garden to brewery.

This event is home-bred and home-sustained. The West End Arts and Entertainment District, or WEAED, is the beneficiary and organizer, a “non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to facilitating community support for arts education of the youth in Alameda.” The founders, business-owners Sandy Russell of The Fireside Lounge and Hiro Cooper of 1400 Bar and Grill, believed that a dedicated group could bring together believers of the power of arts in education. Thus, they created the organization in 2014.

Recipients of WEAED’s efforts, who include Alamedan second-graders to high-school seniors demonstrating financial need, are awarded grants to motivate them to further their arts education. Classes, teachers and schools are also awarded grants and scholarships for youth-arts education programs, with funds coming from the pool of money raised from events like this one. The organization is also dedicated to providing a platform for young talent, so expect many student performances from grant recipients in the kid’s zone.

Due to financial cuts for the Alameda Unified School District, arts education on the Island is constantly shunted from budgets, making efforts and fundraisers like this one all the more important. Art in schools has been consistently demonstrated to benefit students and the community, so show up, chill out, and sip beer for a good cause. Where: Park Street & Central Ave, Alameda

What: Enjoy the famous Alameda tradition and blast from the past! The 24th Annual Classic Car Show will exhibit a variety of more than 400 classic vehicles down the length of Park Street, starting from Encinal and ending at Buena Vista Avenue. Displayed vehicles will vary from antique roadsters to muscle cars and more, with production years spanning across the past century. Most of the cars will be from the 1950s and ‘60s, but some will be more than 70 to 80 years old. Despite being known as one of the best car shows in the Bay Area, this event is free!

A national representative of the Mustang Club of America, the largest organization of Mustang enthusiasts in the world, declared once that Downtown Alameda’s Classic Car Show was the “best he had ever seen.” This may be partially due to the fact that the event caters to every guest, even to those that can’t drive yet. This celebration also offers entertainment and prizes for the children, and venues such as Alameda Theatre & Cineplex, High Scores Arcade Museum, and Subpar Miniature Golf will be sure to entertain the whole family. Throughout all of this, DJs will take guests on a musical tour of the 1950s and ‘60s.

During the car show, be sure to explore the historic downtown. Many stores will be open and offering exclusive discounts this day for wandering visitors. Where: USS Hornet - Sea, Air and Space Museum; 707 W Hornet Ave, Pier 3, Alameda

What: The CA Beer Society, Yelp, and the USS Hornet – Sea, Air and Space Museum are excited to announce the continuation of what will hopefully become an Alameda tradition. The 2nd Battlestar Classic Cornhole & Beer Festival will benefit the museum and allow participants to take part in the hilariously named game, which involves tossing a bag of corn kernels into holes in sloped boards.

In this ultimate tailgating experience, 64 teams consisting of players from all levels, from beginner to advanced, will compete with one another upon the Flight Deck of the Hornet. Champions will compete for the CA Beer Society Growler Trophies, with prizes also given out to second and third-place Cornhole- teams. The “King” and “Queen” of the contest will also name the Battlestar Classic Top Gun. As this event is the only one of its kind in the country, these positions and prizes are highly coveted!

Interested in competing? Players and teams register in advance online through the ticket site linked here. The registration fee supports the museum’s restoration efforts and many programs, and members of all organizations would like to sincerely thank competitors.

Craft beer from local breweries will be offered, to be sipped while participants soak in the jaw-dropping skyline of San Francisco. As this is an all-ages event—activities will be offered for all members of the family, even the non-drinking ones. Food will be available for purchase, along with raffle tickets, whose sales benefit the museum and its mission.

A national and state historic landmark, the World War II-era aircraft carrier is also worth a visit in and of itself. Fortunately, tours are offered as part of the event. Find out about the ship’s roles in aviation history and in the nation’s defense during the World War. Also learn how it has expanded its mission to one that embraces space and science exploration. An important protagonist in the Apollo Program, the museum continues to link the past generations with the new, "inspiring them to meet the challenges they will face in the days to come."

Join the Buddhist Temple of Alameda for their Vacationland Carnival and Bazaar fundraiser! Celebrate the cultural and religious diversity of the Island City while munching on delicious food. There will be a booth for everyone, as all cultures will be represented on guests’ plates, from pizza and tamales to sushi and teriyaki. The whole family will be able to have fun playing games and entertaining themselves with the events’ diversions. The bazaar is a fundraiser for the temple, which enjoys a beautiful heritage of being a spiritual and cultural haven to the Japanese-American and Buddhist communities in the Bay Area since being founded in 1916. Established by Japanese immigrants who settled in Alameda in the 20th century, the temple began humbly and operated out of a rented room. The temple upgraded its venue when it purchased its property in 1919. Membership grew quickly. A social hall was added and later, a house. Members also established a kindergarten for immigrant families, which flourished with 500+ children attending its weekend school.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US government took many innocent Japanese-Americans, like the (then) resident minister, into custody. Later, many families were involuntarily moved and relocated solely on the basis of their Japanese descent. Most victims consisted of families who only wanted to build a better life for themselves. At the end of the war, the temple established itself as a temporary haven for those returning from internment. The temple minister was also able to return, and the late 1940s and early 1950s became a period of rebuilding. More halls were added to the structure, and the youth created a Japanese-style garden to honor the struggles of previous generations.

Offering classes in Japanese, Buddhism, and more, the temple continues to enjoy a strong spiritual presence on the island. The temple’s current spiritual leaders are Rev's Shoyo and Zuikei Taniguchi. They make sure to encourage lectures and weekend schools, further enriching the island with Japanese and Buddhist culture. Lectures cover Buddhist principles, Japanese language, and more. What: Spring has sprung! Celebrate the warmth at Lum Elementary’s 3rd annual Spring Fling Carnival. The school’s PTA has worked tirelessly all year to prepare a day of fun for the whole family. What: Awaken the inner-kid in you and explore the art of Genevieve Santos. The illustrator, aka Le Petit Elefant, will be coming to Modern Mouse for two days to share her talent and to sign her newly published books, including her first two novels in the Daisy Dreamer series. With each signature, the author will also give away her trademark, hand-drawn “imaginary friend” illustrations, drawn on-site. This is a great opportunity to purchase her books and mingle with her and her fans. The event is free, so come check out her work!

Genevieve started Le Petit Elefant in 2009 to demonstrate her love of traveling and art. She named the company after her beloved book, The Little Prince, and reflected her love for elephants in the title. She manages all aspects of her business: Her responsibilities include designing, illustrating, printing, scoring, packaging, sewing, cutting fabric, and more. Due to her love of travel, she accomplishes much while mobile, opting out of working in a studio. Despite the crazy workload, her business allows her to express her passion of telling a story.

She has always taken her artistic devotion a step further than the rest of her crowd. For example, when she was 5, she practiced the obsessive exercise of slowing down VHS tapes and studying what she saw frame-by-frame. Since then, she has participated in many shows and galleries, including Wonderground Gallery in Downtown Disney and the Supahcute Team Show. Her works sell domestically and internationally.

An avid traveler, Santos admits that she cannot stay in one location for more than six weeks at a time. She has visited over 30 countries, including China, Greece, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, France, UK and more.

Both days of the event will feature free book signings. Saturday offers a free giveaway of Daisy Dreamer Canvas Bookmarks for the first 20 book signings. On Sunday, Genevieve will give away complimentary, live-drawn "Imaginary Friends" with each free signing. What: Healing meets fun at the Alameda Natural Grocery! This month, the business will host a diverse series of events, each workshop focusing on restoration and self-love. From facials, to broth, to making yogurt in mason jars, these events provide the opportunity for you to rejuvenate yourself as spring blooms about you throughout these coming weeks. There is an event for everyone, and if that’s not enough, a huge chunk of these workshops don’t cost a cent.

     Does the color green speak to you? If so, sign yourself up for FREE facials on St. Patrick’s Day! On Friday, March 17th, esthetician Shaundra Zee will educate participants on facial care from 1-3PM. She will demonstrate her lessons with products from lines such as Evan Healy, Acure, and DermaE. Of course, in honor of the holiday, many of these products will be green. At the end of the workshop, participants will receive a goodie bag containing body-care samples and teas. First, participants will learn to make “Mystical Mason Jar French Green Lentil Salad.” If that doesn’t make your mouth water, surely the second item, “Fruitilicious Yoghurt Parfait with Prepared Granola,” will.

What: Help Alameda Brewing Company celebrate their 2-year anniversary and commitment to refreshing the island! The night will feature live music from The Up and Down and a live performance from the Ukemamas. In addition to the standard beers, such as Cavanaugh Kolsch, Control, Alt, Delete, and Alameda’s IPA, guests will be offered original taps, courtesy of local homebrewers.

     Alameda Island Brewing Co. embodies every craft-lover’s dream by embracing innovation while adhering to Alameda values. Located on Park Street, the microbrewery welcomes everyone to tour their beautiful tasting room and brew house. After the tour, visitors are invited to relax, sip beer, and enjoy their family and pets at the outdoor patio. Many of these rooms are furnished with furniture made of re-purposed wood, further cultivating Alameda’s welcoming attitude and community feel.

     The company's story begins with Matthew Fox brewing small batches at home. He was then stationed on the island while serving on Coast Guard Island in the USCG. He befriended Bill Phua, an avid beer-lover and engineer, while looking for a space to open his business. They teamed up. After a few years of hard work, involving internships and completing a grueling process with the State, City, and Federal Governments, they were finally able to bring their passion to Alameda. They decided to name their business after the island that they fell in love with, on which Fox met his wife.

     The beer industry is experiencing a revolution and the brewery welcomes all, from the connoisseurs to novices to take part in these developments. For example, the average beer-drinker is now more likely to pursue craft beer over what is produced by big beer companies. These trends resulted in a surge in popularity for independent breweries-- according to Business Insider, there are more breweries today than have ever existed, even since before Prohibition.

     Fox explains these trend, saying there is an “excitement about supporting local businesses and seeing the people who make your product partaking with you.”

     His business exemplifies the benefits of small breweries over mass production. For example, larger companies don’t have the time to engage customers, but at Alameda Brewing Company, customers are even involved in the creation process. The customer-brewer discourse emerges as a benefit of the company’s small size and independence.

     Employees at the brewery run new flavors by customers with research-and-development batches, which are much smaller than what is distributed. Employees discuss these batches with customers and use the responses to make even better beer. Fox says his idea to do this comes from small-brewing days, when he and his friends would start conversations over beer. He is excited and proud of the continuation of this tradition.

     The brewery further encourages community involvement by hosting a homebrew program, which provides local homebrewers with the opportunity to use the company’s equipment. After, the beer is sampled in the tasting rooms. These events result in great flavors and community bonding.

What: Everyone is invited to the 3rd Resilience Climate Change Expedition! The exhibit and documentary series follow the adventures of the character Jessica Jane, our generation’s newest environmental hero. There will be much to learn about, and attendants will be able to do so while enjoying bites from local restaurants. In addition, attendants can celebrate the launch the Indiegogo of Jessica Jane’s graphic novel, Resilience Birthright, which will be happening that night! The night provides plenty outlets of doing so, including free giveaways, live acoustic guitar performance, raffles, and a silent auction.

     Resilience Birthright Saga is a story of a young woman, Jessica Jane, the last of the Evolusarians, raised on Planet Earth as a human unaware of her true identity. As she reaches her coming of age, spirit guides, Queen Filioli and the Great Emperor Purudasma, appear to teach her of her true powers and birthright. Jessica Jane is the only one who can stop the dark force that is threatening Planet Earth, the same force that destroyed her birth home, Planet Terravitae.

     The episode that will be showcased in the exhibit documents Jessica Jane’s origin story. She is held as a newborn by Queen Filioli Vitae, who hides in Mount Altis. The Queen is deciding on a name as she levitates with tears streaming from her eyes. With each tear that falls a memory is held within; a memory of how her planet and kingdom, Terravitae, fell with her husband, King Scutum. Her life flashes before her eyes, memories of how she became exiled from her home hiding to protect the life of her daughter.

     The creator of the show, Jessica Jane Robinson, wants to teach her audience the importance of environmental awareness through her character’s adventures. She focuses on ways we can utilize human power and ingenuity to generate energy and clean the planet. Robinson also wants to encourage to more deeply understand how our daily food and waste choices impact our global communities.

     The character Jessica Jane is following the example of her creator, Robinson, who is Alameda’s own green superhero. She started her career in environmental activism when she was crowned as Miss Alameda in the 2010 and 2011 Miss California USA Pageant. She platformed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to promote clean technology and energy. As Miss Alameda, Jessica promoted Alameda's recycling and composting program in local schools and businesses. She is one of the founders of Miss Alameda Says Compost (MASC), recruiting restaurants in Alameda to recycle and compost and through it, has helped the City of Alameda reach 75% diversion in 2012.

     Additionally, the first 50 people who RSVP (link below) will receive a $100 gift card toward Epi Med Spa. This spa is unique in that it is the first medical spa in the United States and has been recognized as the cities best green spa in 2008 by 7X7 Magazine, 2010 top Medical Spa by DaySpa Magazine. It also has been voted 2010 Best Day Spa by the readers of the San Francisco Chronicle and has been granted the Silver LEED certification by the US Building and Green Counsel. Mayor Gavin Newsom and the City of San Francisco even gave the spa a proclamation.

What: 2016 came and went-- how did this year impact you? Relive the craziness in an exhibit called “A Look Back at 2016,” hosted by Studio 23. If this year impacted you negatively, the night can provide opportunities for healing. On the other hand, if this year impacted you positively, the night can provide opportunities for celebration. Regardless, this is a great way to meet local members of the art community. All of the art had to have been created this year and, if you want to find out more about any piece, all of the artists will be present.

     Studio 23 calls for a broad range of submissions, as the theme for the exhibit is very open-ended. The studio calls for work created in 2016, or in the 2016 artwork challenge, or for work related to the past year. Prepare yourself to see renditions of Trump’s orangeness, or the faces of presidents impeached in year, such as in Brazil and South Korea. Remind yourself of the tragedy occurring in Syria, and witness the faces of other tragedies occurring in the world.

     The studio allows anyone following the above themes to submit their work. Unfortunately, the submission deadline for this exhibit has already passed. However, future exhibits, such as Space-Time Continuum Event Horizon in April will provide an opportunity for anyone wanting to present their work.

     Is your resolution for 2017 to be more artsy? Studio 23 provides an outlet for that as well with meetups and classes for sketching. You can be part of the The Alameda Artist Group, a group for artists in all creative media and practicing at all skill levels. Participation in classes is not a requirement for participating in meetups.

     This is a great opportunity to be inspired through others and to learn new techniques and hone your craft. The meetups are laid back and start off with planning out new locations and themes. Past ideas have included sketching cranes from the ferry or sitting in a coffee shop and studying the patrons. Artists do not have to be from Alameda, but in general, most of the meetups are held in the island city.

     There is no required fee for meetups except for a suggested donation of $5-$10. Donations go to pay for Meetup.com fees, group art shows and various art supplies. It is important to note that special events and classes may require additional fees. The cost of each class or event will vary depending on supplies needed and will be announced at the creation of the event. The studio and groups appreciate all contributions!      Jennifer Serr desires that any artful soul feels at home at her studio. Even the name, the Sewing Room, reflects that it is a space for everyone. Her classes, which change and evolve regularly, include parent-child projects, couture-techniques workshops, and holiday-stocking making. These classes inspire a mindful and loving creativity, for Serr demonstrates how regular crafting imbues a sense of confidence, as she says a “sports practice or religious practice might.” Often, a season of sewing classes ends with a runway show, in which students proudly demonstrate the creative goals Serr and her team showed them how to fulfill.

     She stretches her business’ heart by doing what many other studios don’t even attempt: She wants to replace today’s cold consumerism with an appreciation for the objects we already have. Through her lessons and participation in the Ethical Fashion Show, an island-wide competition that promotes thrift-shopping and consumer consciousness among teens, she resurrects skills that disappeared with past generations. She shows options, beyond dumpsters, for our less-than-perfect clothing-- outfits can be fitted, buttons re-sewn, and tears patched up.

     She and her students recently extended the studio’s spirit to Africa. Through the Sew Powerful project, the Sewing Room helped African girls stay in school. Unfortunately, for many young girls on the continent, menstruation means skipping 5 days of class each cycle, amounting to about two months of missed school per year. This problem is further compounded by the fact that many children only get to eat at school, so girls miss their daily nutrition when they menstruate.

     Volunteers helped girls continue their education by creating bags containing menstrual products. The studio provided the fabric and space and volunteers provided their energy. Serr says that it’s a “wonderful program for everyone involved. We made 50 bags last year and hope to make another 100 for this year's goal. The organization's goal this year is 6,000 bags-- this will allow 6,000 girls to remain in school, keeping them from the many outside risks they are subjected to.”

     At 6-7 PM, instructors from Yoga Alameda will teach yoga at all skill levels. The studio offers a variety of affordable classes at different skill levels, catering to the different needs of the community, such as those of pregnant women, families, and stressed-out professionals. Their class titles include Fitness Flow, Vinyasa Yoga, Pre-Natal, and Restorative Yoga. Additionally, Yoga Alameda brings the community together by offering a safe space for Alamedans.             Alameda’s Studio 23 is excited to present their 3rd annual BlackLight Art Show! Celebrate Halloween with glowing artworks by East Bay artists. Attendents can enjoy the the black-lit and spooky environment and, if they choose to do so, be part of the glowing exhibit themselves with luminescent face-painting from artist Alana Dill.

            In addition to free admission, attendants can enjoy free glow-in-the-dark favors along with music and treats. This event is family-friendly, offering diversions for younger attendants, such as neon sidewalk chalk drawing, coloring pages, temporary tattoos, and a bio-lumina board that they can doodle on.

            The attraction of the night are vivid, giant mushrooms created by artist Tina Banda. According to her, the idea for the glowing fungi came from a recent visit to an exhibit at the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. She combined her memories of real mushrooms from the museum with the fanciful and imaginary ones from fairy tales. Other featured artists include Wesley E. Warren, Jessica Warren, Ken Gulley, Alana Dill, Carolia Tapia, Libby Baldwin, and Micky Elliot.

            Though the event is free, donations are appreciated. The art center, which hosts the works of many local artists, is known for its eclectic and welcoming atmosphere and its humble, knowledgeable vibe. What: Join hundreds of bikers as they work out for a good cause in Alameda Bike for the Parks, or Bike4Parks. Alameda Bicycle, a local business, prepared two paths for event-goers. The event is a fundraiser, and members of the bike shop want to raise money and build appreciation for Alameda parks. Additionally, they want to highlight Alameda’s gorgeous shoreline and build a fun, fitness-minded community.

The family and child-friendly bike ride starts at 9AM and is divided into two paths-- an eight-mile path and a twenty-two-mile path. Both paths start and end at Washington Park. The twenty-two-mile trail follows the Alameda shoreline, going through Bay Farm Island and the formal Naval Air Base. Gorgeous views of San Francisco and the Bay Area are guaranteed along this route. The eight-mile trail, at a much gentler place, goes to-and-from Model Airfield Park. This path is designed for bikers of all fitness levels.

Rest stops, snacks, drinks, bathrooms, and support will be provided by the event’s organizers. Event-goers are also invited to a cool-down party following the bike ride, running from 11AM to 3 PM. The party, hosted at Washington Park, offers food trucks and live music. Each purchase of a ticket includes a voucher for a food truck. The Sun Kings, a local band, will deliver the show. Alameda Recreation and Parks District will provide kid’s jumpers and a climbing wall for younger bikers.

       Join Julie’s Coffee and Tea Garden for the second showing of Gregory Moore’s work in Reclaimed Surfaces. Discover the complexity and richness of life through Moore’s paintings of California scenery on the surfaces of reclaimed and found objects. Meet the artist and enjoy good drinks and company on the outdoor deck of the café.

       Gregory Moore has been featured in Citiscapes Magazine, NPR, and more. His art has been displayed from Arkansas to Washington. He starts a piece off by collecting manmade debris, such as concrete or metal that would otherwise have been discarded. When he paints, he makes sure to not “obscure the original texture and color.” His paintings often depict the flora and fauna of California, such as poppies, thistles, and sea life.

       He hopes that, by outlining the processes undergone by the scraps that he paints on, he can raise awareness of humanity’s “collective shadow” by bringing attention to elements that would have otherwise been ignored. What: View Alameda from the lenses of local photographers! The Frank Bette Center for the Arts, with help from the South Shore Shopping Center, is presenting the annual Alameda on Camera exhibit. In this yearly tradition, forty-eight contestants are given only forty-eight hours to snap their interpretations of the island city. Deadlines are tight—after the photographs are captured, artists are permitted only a few weeks to prepare their work for display.

This year’s exhibit includes more than images from the typical landmarks of Alameda, like Crab Cove or Crown Beach. In fact, Mixed-Media-Award winner Gina Chabre entered “Dark Aster”—a photo of a flower balanced by a “darker, abstract image.” Her other entries include more flowers, odds and ends, and mysterious structures whose names she won’t reveal. In an interview, Chabre told the East Bay Times that she greatly enjoyed exploring different parts of Alameda—especially its East End, with an iPhone equipped with a macro lens.

Chabre also mentioned her gratitude for the Frank Bette Center for the Arts. According to her, the nonprofit creates a “nurturing” environment for artists. Located in the yellow house on 1601 Paru Street in Alameda, the Center has been a creative outlet for the city since benefactor Frank Bette donated his house upon his death in 1999. Members and volunteers fulfill the mission of making the organization a place for “meetings, readings, showings, and other creative doings” by offering classes, volunteer opportunities, workshops, and more. Though the Center is temporarily closed for city-mandated repairs, plans are in order for quick reopening.

What: Fall in love with the local brewery scene and support a good cause! Brewbies in the Bay, benefiting the Keep a Breast Foundation, is the first of such beer festivals held at Faction Brewing. Event-goers will have the opportunity to sample over 80 different types of beers from over 40 of the West Coast’s best breweries while listening to live music and DJ.

Faction Brewing has been a part of Alameda since 2013. The company has shown its dedication to producing excellent beer when it won bronze at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival, only 9 months after opening its doors. The company produces all types of beer, from IPAs and Belgians to pales, which the curious can sample from their 25,000 square foot hangar in full view of the San Francisco skyline.

Artist Shaney jo Darden founded the Keep A Breast Foundation when she found out that her 27-year-old friend contracted breast cancer.  The organization, from Carlsbad, California, raises awareness of prevention and early detection through the use of art and educational programs.

Early-bird tickets are $45, while day-of tickets go for $60. The price includes a custom glass, a bracelet, a raffle ticket, and craft beer samplings. What: You are invited to join Island City Opera as they present La Boheme, the romance between a poor poet and struggling seamstress. The rendition, taking place in early-1800s Paris, will be performed at the Alameda Elk’s Lodge in original Italian (attendants will be provided with English supertitles). Written by Giacomo Puccini, La Boheme is one of the world’s most popular operas, capturing hearts with its interpretations of romance, jealousy, and poverty.

What: Rhythmix Cultural Works invites Alamedans to this free, fun event, led by Lauren Hewitt and Linda Jacobson from PaddleSnap Urban Resort. Attendees will be enjoy table tennis, live acoustic music, and refreshing drinks. In addition to the sport, the party will be a great way to meet members of the Alameda community who are passionate about healthy lifestyles.

Table tennis offers many health benefits. Anyone of any age, size, and experience level can enjoy the sport and reap the many health benefits that benefit the whole body from the cardiovascular to the nervous system. By sharpening reflexes and stimulating no less than five parts of the brain, players can enjoy improvements to balance, mental alertness, and sleep. Additionally, according to the event website, four out of five musicians claim that ping pong is the best game to play to music.

Lauren Hewitt and Linda Jacobson founded Paddlesnap to encourage community-building an cardio exercise. The two plan on opening a social fitness club for the community, which will aim to “put a new spin on working out - and enjoy that summer vacation vibe every day of the year!” The upcoming club will feature table tennis, live music, nutritious snacks and drinks and will work to create community of “fun-loving people” who “enjoy a balanced life.” A grand opening is planned for the center in 2016.

Money raised from the night benefits the museum, which is a 501 c nonprofit. Former exhibition designer Michael Schiess started the museum in 2001 when he purchased a collection of 36 machines. After pinball exhibits at other museums disappointed him with their offerings, he founded the museum in 2004 and, in 2009, renamed the museum the Pacific Pinball Machine after turning the museum into a nonprofit organization.

The museum today provides a colorful, interactive journey through the history of one of America’s most-popular pastimes. The machines in the museum come from all over the world and from many time periods; some of the machines displayed are from as early as 1879 (a Montague Redgrave Parlor Bagatelle) while others are new, sleek productions. The games presented are rotated from a collection of over 400 to highlight different pinball artists and periods of design. Some of the major pieces include The Addams Family and Twilight Zone.

The museum also aims to aid science and history education on the island. Its mission statement is to “inspire an interest in science, art and history through pinball and to preserve and promote this important part of American culture." The Pacific Pinballs team accomplishes their mission through community activities and by teaching classes, including “Introduction to Electromechanical Pinball Machines,” “Learning History through Pinball,” “Recognizing Pinball Artists,” and “The Necessity of Invention—How Pinball was Created, and Why.” The museum is also a hot field-trip location for children, who enjoy learning by playing on colorful, interactive exhibits.

The museum has come far from its humble beginnings. Featured in the New York Times and SF Chronicle, it has also signed an agreement with the Phaeno Museum of Wolfsburg, Germany to further promote science, technology and math education through pinball machines. Soon, because of an agreement with the City of Alameda, the museum will relocate to the now-abandoned Carnegie Library on Santa Clara Ave. The Pacific Pinball team is excited that the new building will allow three times more displays as now and provide an opportunity to expand their already-exciting programs. The move to the magnificent building—built in 1902 and empty since 1998— will require fundraising to cover moving costs and renovations.

What:   Recall your childhood’s Christmas nostalgia and wonder and visit Christmas Tree Lane! In this Alameda tradition, families of Thompson Ave. conduct a brilliant light show to celebrate the upcoming holiday season. Sometimes vintage and classy, other times funky and fun-- but always brilliant, these decorations bring the whole island together while drawing in masses of people from across the Bay Area.

              Every year before the light show, families of Thompson Ave. get together and discuss a plan for that year’s Christmas tree lane. In addition to intricate decorations-- many of which are unique and completely home-made, events are planned out, including live music and parades. These events are coordinated with organizations from across the city to entertain visitors and to raise the holiday spirit. The experience is complete with neighborhood elves handing out candy canes and Santa listening to last-minute gift-wishes.

              The event has its roots in the Great Depression, when two cousins started to decorate. One by one, neighbors joined the fun and started decorating as well. Over time, the street’s embellishments became more and more intricate, eventually evolving into what it is today. Now, although there is no contract to do so, the majority of households on the street participate in the event—participation for some members reaches back through generations.

Learn about the wildlife of the Bay Area without getting wet! This Saturday and Sunday, naturalists at the Crab Cove Visitor Center will educate attendees about the fish of the shoreline. The activities will involve feeding the over twenty species held in the the five aquariums and answering questions about them. The fish-- including crabs, flounders, perches and pipefish, represent the the ecosystem of the Bay Area.

The Crab Cove Visitor Center at Crown Memorial State Beach, has been a fun and educational part of West Alameda since it opened in 1979. Located within walking distance of the shoreline, the free-admission center attracts visitors from across the bay with its interactive exhibits that cover the history and wildlife of the area. In addition, the gift shop provides toys and knick-knacks for children and books about ornithology and biology for adults.

The mission of the center is to educate residents about the importance of the Bay Area ecosystem. What:   Ever feel nostalgic about haunted house parties from your youth? Have your senses blasted with mystical music as you fumble around in darkness, dodging ghosts and evading goblins at this year’s Teen Haunted House! This year's theme is "Haunted Hospital"—bring your family and support the work of teenage volunteers from across Alameda.

           This spook-tacular event is a city tradition that brings youth together while providing the community with a fun-filled night. On average, this event involves approximately 80 volunteers and over 2000 hours of community service earned. Funds raised from the night go to supporting events for teens

           Entrance fees are $5 for youth, $7 for adults. Sponsors of the event include Alameda Recreation and Park District, South Shore Center, Alameda Youth Committee, Alameda County Industries, and the Friends of the Parks Foundation.  Proceeds go to Alameda Youth Committee, which an organization that aims to provide activities and volunteer opportunities to Alameda teens.

What: You are invited to join local residents in celebrating West-End Alameda's culture! This free event, taking place on Webster at the US Bank parking lot, will offer food, fun and live music for the whole family. Entertainment starts at 12:30 with performances from the West End Arts and Entertainment District youth members. Blues will begin at 3PM with local-talent Jim Parodi, who is a passionate guitarist often seen at such nonprofit events.

Businesses from around this part of Alameda are pitching in to add to the fun of the evening.The Bladium, a local gym, will provide a bouncy house and games for children. Additionally, adults are welcome to test out frosty beer brewed right here on the island. Also, members of the Encinal High School cheerleading team will be fundraising by providing baked goods and face paintings for the little ones.  

Adding to all of the festivities, this event will be a great opportunity to meet the members of the West End Arts and Entertainment District, a nonprofit organization that will be working to provide grants for music education in Alameda. The organization is new to the island. They describe themselves as  a collaborative effort of local artists sharing their collections and performances in participating venues on Webster Street.

The evening is organized thanks to the West Alameda Business Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and advocating for businesses located on the West End of Alameda.
