Viewer agency in xR is a new consideration for artists from traditional media. How can you plot a story if the viewer has choices?Max Ellison will go over the process and tools he used in the development of The Goodbye Room, a VR "escape room with feelings" currently raising funds on Kickstarter.We'll also look at free software tools for plotting the forks of your story as you write. Laptops welcome. No technical background is necessary for this event.This is the fourth in a series of talks on Storyboarding for VR. Past sessions have addressed how to create spherical panoramas, adding interactivity with code-free tools, and roughing out a 3d environment with Sketch-Up.This event is generously hosted by Microsoft Reactor, just a few blocks south of Montgomery St. BART. Your ticket price goes toward light refreshments and soft drinks. Max Ellinger is a designer and developer from Phoenix, AZ. He began his career at human-centered design firm IDEO and co-founded two Bay Area startups before running the development practice at an agency in Berkeley. In mid-2018 he abandoned all that and set out to make a weird and personal VR narrative adventure, the result is The Goodbye Room: Escape Your Ex.Jonathan Lowe is a playwright and co-founder of the game design team Wren Pirates. He is currently working on a VR documentary that reconstructs the home a refugee can never go back to.
